Antony Williams, one of our tutors has been shortlisted, along with two other artists for the BP Portrait Prize 2017 (the most prestigious of the portrait awards) at the National Portrait Gallery, London. We wish him every success!
Antony will be accompanying his wife Caroline Bays for her painting workshop here on 19th July. Caroline is the main tutor covering life, portrait, landscape and still life, but Antony will be doing a demonstration whilst here, you can watch him paint and he will be giving a talk about his work during the week. They have both also been selected by the Royal Portrait Society for their Mall Gallery exhibition which opens 4 May. There are still a couple of places remaining on Caroline's course so don't miss the opportunity to work with a wonderful tutor and to meet Antony.

Welcome to Arte Umbria
As seen on the BBC and featured in the Sunday Telegraph, our home, Tenuta di Poggiolame, is the venue for our painting, drawing and creative writing courses, which are designed to suit all levels of skill. We are NOT a hotel, it is our private home, and we are just lucky enough to have this wonderful place that we make open to people to come and enjoy learning. COME to be inspired and explore your creative potential.
As a guest in our home, this gives a more personal touch to the weeks and usually results in a house party atmosphere. We aim to offer every comfort and have a private chef. Our home is set in the Umbrian hills, overlooking the Cetona peaks and close to the Tuscany and Lazio borders and nestles in it's own private 220 acre estate.
The estate of Poggiolame is within easy reach of Orvieto and other beautiful towns - Assisi, Siena, but only 90 minutes from Rome or Florence and the Piero della Francesca Trail. A local convent 5 minutes away founded by St Francis of Assisi, and local historians are certain St Francis would have walked in our grounds to be at one with nature and the wild animals.
This is our home. A friendly, informal atmosphere pervades the courses so that people of all levels of skill can mix and relax. We aim to provide all comforts.
We take pride in caring for all your needs, looking after you during your stay and visiting the amazing vistas, village, vineyards, castles as many as we can, to enhance your stay - not to mention the food is wonderful from our private chef. This is your TRIP OF A LIFETIME.
Our tutors TUTOR, they don't just host. You are guaranteed to go away with enhanced technique from tips and tricks. You won't be left 'fumbling in the dark' to work on your own. Our dedicated team of artists will help and guide you every step of the way, and there are frequent demonstrations. Take work home you are proud of. Some of our competitors just offer hosting tutors and at twice the price. Check us out you won't be disappointed!
We welcome, at a discounted rate, non-participating partners and friends of our students, who just want to holiday and soak up the atmosphere.
We are also able to offer bespoke art and culture holidays for groups of 8 or more. Please contact us directly for more details.
